Educational Lunch Box Series - Cards and Place Mats

I’ve always had a fascination with children’s educational material. My father used to spend weekends teaching his four kids all topics. - Doing science experiments, reading philosophy, science, religion, interpersonal communication and entrepreneurial books together… However, he rarely came down to our level. He was brilliant (LOL with a PhD and MD from Harvard and Yale). But he was over our heads (maybe not my older brother’s) and probably very frustrated. .

It was apparent that my children have the brilliant genes at an early age, so I followed suit. I created educational materials to suit them. I brought children’s science experiments to my daughter’s preschool and desperately tried to get Spanish lessons into the class. I purchased children’s Spanish learning videos. When we went to the zoo, I brought a Spanish book to look up animal names. My son was crazy about zoo and wild animals. We (and eventually just he) kept logs on animals that we saw. He went thru a dinosaur craze, so for his birthday, I made an elaborate dinosaur bingo game. For my daughter, who was book crazy, we held a children’s book club for her class mates. She eventually took this over and held it at the local book store by herself. Meanwhile my husband told stories at weekend breakfasts that were incredibly long math problems that kept the children on their toes and thinking in their heads. They loved this and loved the competition. And of course, I brought them to music lessons from a young age.

When I spent time reading a book and talking about it with my (preschool) daughter, her younger brother would get jealous. He usually tried to interrupt. That’s why I knew I couldn’t home school. So, when I recently started working on the children’s reading and science “Lunchbox Education” series, my younger brother said, “that’s so you!” And I am having a lot of fun. And you can tell by the results.

PS. I do have a masters degree in Engineering from Cornell University. I got pulled into new directions when I had those kids, and can’t survive anymore with out creating something. I consider myself a cat on about my 6th life.
